Our teams were the first to describe the presence of microplastics in our oceans, inspiring a new field of academic enquiry and global policy change, including taxes on plastic carrier bags and a UK ban on microbeads. Our work has significantly improved how to forecast extreme coastal events and their impact on communities. We were also the first to study the ecological effects of ocean acidification, and now lead the UK agenda for offshore renewable energy. Read more
The Law Clinic offers real advice and assistance to clients in the Plymouth community, across a range of legal areas. Coordinated by law students and supervised by staff - the clinic provides hands on experience for our students and provides a vital service to the local community. Read more

We’ve launched the Medical Hardship Fund — created to provide direct support to medical students who are at risk of leaving their course because of financial pressures. This fund will provide travel bursaries, emergency support for those facing hardship and extra help for care leavers and students without family support. Read more

At the University of Plymouth, The South West Impact of Multiple Sclerosis project is a study following 1,600 people with multiple sclerosis in Devon and Cornwall, providing new information about how MS changes over time. This work helps the research team to understand the impact of MS from the perspective of people affected by MS and look at better ways of helping patients. Read more
